Help Launch Summer Programming at the Holmes Richardson Community Center
When public funding disappeared, this community still showed up for one another. Now we are asking others to show up, too. Help us raise $10,000 by June 15 to ensure young people in Clay Terrace and Lincoln Heights have a safe and inspiring place to learn, create, and thrive this summer.
Match Challenge: Longtime supporter Larry Fullerton will match the first two $500 gifts.
Why This Matters Right Now
For more than a decade, Sasha Bruce Youthwork has supported families in Clay Terrace and Lincoln Heights through what is now the Holmes Richardson Community Center, a trusted community hub providing food access, youth programming, workforce support, and family stabilization services. The Center serves more than 325 residents, preventing youth homelessness by helping families stay stable. But in 2024, the city funding that sustained the Center was eliminated. Rather than closing the doors, Bradley Holmes and other relentless Sasha Bruce staff continued services using internal unrestricted funding. Why? Because families in this community deserve consistency, support, and opportunity.

- 325 residents served last year
- 10+ years serving Ward 7
- Six weeks of summer programming planned
A Safe, Creative Summer for Ward 7 Youth
This summer, the Holmes Richardson Community Center will provide young people with:
- Daily hands-on arts programming
- Weekly museum and cultural field trips
- Exposure to African American artists and DC arts institutions
- Safe, structured summer engagement
- Mentorship and community-building
- Meals, enrichment, and supportive adults
These programs are more than summer activities. They are prevention in action; helping young people stay connected and supported during critical summer months.

“I hope you will do everything you can to support the new Holmes Richardson Community Center. The Center is named for my friend Brad Holmes, a long-standing member of the SBY staff, who has worked tirelessly over many years to support the residents. This is a deserving community, a well-deserved honor for Brad, and a project worthy of strong community support. Thank you.”
